Miss Universe is a persona I developed during my time studying abroad in South Africa in 2017. She is a reflexion of stereotypes of Venezuelan beauty and femininity. Through this character or persona, I challenge various dichotomies in my identity – being a Latinx in Canada, being a queer body with a Catholic upbringing, and growing up femme in a machista and patriarchal society. In recent years, Miss Universe has become like Barbie, who shifts and changes roles based on attire, and action. Not only is she a beauty pageant winner, she is also a flight attendant and military commander.
